Your Septic Questions, Answered

Living with a septic system comes with questions, and we hear them all the time. Whether you’ve just moved out to the country or you’re a seasoned homeowner, we’re here to clear things up.

From routine pumping to surprise alarms, here are the answers folks across Central Texas ask us most.

How often should I have my septic system pumped?

Most septic systems need to be pumped every 2 to 3 years, depending on the size of the tank and your household usage. Regular pumping helps prevent backups and extends the life of your system.

What types of septic systems do you work on?

We service both conventional and aerobic septic systems. Whether you’re on a rural property with a standard system or using an aerobic setup with sprinklers, we’ve got you covered.

What size are the septic tanks you install or service?

For conventional systems, we typically see either a single 500-gallon tank or two 500-gallon tanks.

For aerobic systems, the tanks are usually 1,500 gallons or larger.

Where are septic tanks usually located?

Septic tanks can be located in a few common areas depending on your property layout:
If you’re not sure where yours is, give us a call and we can help locate it.

Are septic tank lids usually accessible, or do they need to be dug up?

Some lids are accessible at ground level, especially on newer systems. Others may need to be dug up if they aren’t fitted with risers. If you’re unsure, we can check it out during your service.

What should I do if my aerobic system alarm is going off?

Start by asking yourself a few quick questions:
If something seems off or if you’re not sure, call us right away. Aerobic systems are more complex and need quick attention when alarms go off.

Can I plant trees or shrubs near my septic system?

A pretty yard is great, but not at your septic system’s expense. Deep or aggressive roots can cause major damage. Keep it safe with grass or shallow-rooted plants near your tank and drain field.

Is it safe to drive or park over my septic tank or drain field?

Your septic system isn’t built to be a parking spot. Keep cars, trucks, and heavy equipment off your tank and drain field to avoid crushing components underground.

Do septic systems work during a power outage?

Power out? Your conventional system should still run okay. But if you’ve got an aerobic setup, the alarms or spray functions may stop until power returns. We’re here to help if anything goes haywire.
